Ten SPOTS: That are Kid-Friendly.

Dave's Pizza

Dave’s Pizza
If you grew up in Homewood, you probably ate at Dave’s when you were a kid. The beloved and quirky spot does a great job with traditionally topped pizzas, but the more “gourmet” pies, with ingredients such as pesto and barbecue sauce, are well worth a try.

Chuy’s
The Summit’s massive Tex-Mex spot is always loud and boisterous, so rowdy youngsters won’t ruin anybody’s time. There’s often a wait, but grab some complimentary chips and salsa from the bar to keep them occupied before chowing down on tasty burritos and enchiladas.

Tortugas Homemade Pizza
Expand a pizza-loving child’s horizons beyond thin-crust with the excellent Chicago-style deep-dish pies at this Hoover joint. Order one with spinach, and they won’t even know they’re eating their vegetables! 2801 John Hawkins Pkwy., Hoover; 205-403-9800; tortugaspizza.com

Silvertron Café
From pasta to tacos to burgers, the lengthy menu at this friendly Forest Park establishment will satisfy any picky eater, but it’s all tasty enough for Mom and Dad to enjoy. Come on Sunday for the excellent brunch, as well.

Max’s Delicatessen
Max’s knows how to keep kids happy; as soon as you’re seated, the wait staff brings a tray of carrot sticks and ranch dip. But the sandwiches, piled high with authentic Detroit corned beef and pastrami, are anything but child’s play. If that’s not Junior’s cup of tea, try a burger, hot dog or even tacos.

Cantina
With locations at Pepper Place, on Hwy. 280, and in Patton Creek, Cantina is convenient no matter where you live. The Latin-American sandwiches and entrees are great, but kids will really love the magnificent garlic fries. And for the adults, the place makes a mean margarita.

Urban Cookhouse
Busy families will love this Homewood restaurant. Its take-home dinners for four include a gourmet entrée, two sides and orange rolls that are rapidly becoming famous. Beats the drive-through any day.

Joe’s Italian
Southern-Italian classics like spaghetti and meatballs and lasagna are the specialty of this Alabaster establishment, and they’re all twice as good as those from any other restaurant around. Plus, if you clean your plate, you get to try a massive slice of one of the excellent house-made cakes.

21 Weatherly Club Drive, Alabaster; 205-663-4111

Pinches Tacos
There’s a giant round table in the center of this Homewood taqueria that’s perfect for a Little League team outing or small birthday dinner. The authentic California-style Mexican food is super-tasty, and the orders come out nice and fast to boot.
