The Power of Women: Teresa Rivadeneira

Teresa Rivadeneira, AIA, RID is the principal and lead designer of her firm, T.R.I.  Architecture + Interior Design, LLC. Since 2003 T.R.I. has provided design expertise to some of Alabama’s top industries and institutions including UAB, the University of Alabama, Birmingham City Schools, and the City of Birmingham. T.R.I.  is part of the BJCC approved design team for the $96.16 million Legacy Arena project, expected in 2022.

The firm is focused on commercial, institutional, and residential design for clients throughout the State of Alabama. Teresa’s fulfillment comes from knowing that her designs directly impact the lives of the people using them. She is inspired by the design ingenuity of women such as Zaha Hadid and Denise Scott Brown. Teresa is licensed in both Architecture and Interior Design and is committed to the growth and education of young A/E professionals.

She has served as preceptor for the Auburn University Urban Studio in Birmingham – a teaching and mentorship program for students entering the A/E/C industry – and is an active member of AIA. She supports her local community through the Birmingham Historical Society and English Village Garden Club. She is a wife and mother of three, and a grandmother of four. She hopes to inspire more young women to join the design industry. “I enjoy being an
architect, and I believe that being a woman complements my talents and skills,” says Teresa.

“Our professional capability is not inherent to our
gender, but is the expression of our creativity, knowledge and experience.”
