Give Birmingham: Positive Maturity

Positive Maturity has been a central Alabama’s aging community since 1971. Over the past 50 years we have strived to keep adults 55 and older active in their communities, independent in their homes, and able to sustain through community resources. Positive Maturity is one of the few senior organizations that offers all three AmeriCorps Senior Corps programs; Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and two volunteer stipend programs; the Foster Grandparent Program and Senior Companion Program. Stipend programs provide our seniors with rich volunteer opportunities in their communities while allowing them to earn a small stipend, reimbursement for transportation, and meal allowance. These benefits will not interfere with any current entitlement benefits they may already be receiving and are not taxed.

In addition, Positive Maturity provides adults 50 and older (60 for meal eligibility) with an activity center, Shepherd Center at Don Hawkins and an Information and Referral program. Our center is filled a variety of activities such as line dancing, chair and floor exercises, quilting, arts & crafts, and more! Free to join for adults 50 and older, and for adults 60 plus, a free lunch Monday-Friday. Transportation can also be arranged for members of the Eastlake Community if needed.
