The Wailers perform Legend
Tonight at 7:30 PM

On the 30th anniversary of its release in 1984, Bob Marley’s band The Wailers will perform their iconic album Legend in its entirety. Named by Time Magazine as the “Best Album of the 20th Century,” Legend is the best-selling reggae album of all-time.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Lecture
January 17 at 12:00 PM
Birmingham Public Library – Central

This 11th annual lecture honors the legacy of MLK and the issues he fought for; this year’s topic will focus on human rights. Guest speaker Patricia A. McCay will discuss the victims of modern-day slavery, explore ways traffickers entrap and control their victims, and examine certain cases in Alabama.  

The event is free and open to the public

This concert is presented by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra in partnership with the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. ASO Assistant Conductor Roderick Cox leads the orchestra and The Aeolians in this annual tribute to the work and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast
January 20 at 7:30 AM

This annual breakfast, themed “Birmingham Unity: Embracing Liberty and Justice for All,” is the oldest unity breakfast in the country honoring the legacy of MLK. The event will feature a musical performance by The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Choir and catered breakfast by Chef Clayton Sherrod.

The Dream Lives: 50 Years Forward Rendition
January 20 at 6:00 PM
Carver Theatre

This shining star of the 2014 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration tells the story of the Birmingham Civil Rights Movement like no other play. Don’t miss this singular performance.
