One Act Operas

Join Birmingham-Southern College as the Opera Theatre presents two one-act operas: Ralph Vaughn Williams’ Riders to the Sea and Stanley Hollingsworth’s The Mother. Friday’s show starts at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday’s show begins at 2:30 p.m.

Pack your lawn chairs and coolers and come on out to beautiful Barber Motorsports Park on April 24 through April 26 to watch as some of the fastest drivers in the world compete on one of the most intense road courses in North America.

Drivers such as former Dancing with the Stars contestant Helio Castroneves, Indy 500 and two-time Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama winner Ryan Hunter-Reay, Marco Andretti, Graham Rahal, and many more will be battling it out for the win.

Tickets start at $15 and children 12 & under are admitted free with a ticketed adult.

In-Water Boat Show

Check out what 2015 looks like for boats at Russell Marina’s In-Water Boat Show. They’ll be showing off the hottest new models at the Ridge Marina on Lake Martin. Bring your water-riding enthusiasts for demo driving, food, entertainment, and a chance to win some cool giveaways!

Restoration Run

Walk, run a 5K, or run a 15K for the Will Bright Foundation and The Riverhouse Project‘s Restoration Run at Red Mountain on April 25. It’s a local initiative designed to bolster community collaboration and optimism that will turn the tide of drug addiction in our region.

The Gardens’ outdoor celebration looks back at the history of Victory Gardens, specifically World War II gardens, through an archival display and educational activities inspired by 1945 and the war era. The event 
takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Formal Garden in front of the Conservatory.

Get up and join Sloss Furnace for a day chock-full of local bands (Troubled Waters, Todd Simpson & Mojo Child, The Bear, Belle Adair, and Escondido) from 2 to 10 p.m. to benefit The Red Barn’s therapeutic and educational programs for children with disabilities and special circumstances.

Auto Show Charity Preview

It’s all about 
 at the Alabama Auto Show. This year’s preview gala benefits Racing for Children’s, which supports the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s of Alabama. Come for food from Hot & Hot, brews from Avondale, and Led Zeppelin tunes from The Black Jacket Symphony.

Alabama Auto Show
April 30 through May 3

The Alabama Auto Dealers Auto Show will
 feature 2015’s hottest cars: domestic cars, import cars, light trucks, SUVs, and hybrid vehicles. Come to look at more than 400 vehicles from manufacturers all over the world, and talk to manufacturer’s reps and product specialists. The Birmingham Automobile Dealers Association will be on hand to assist in product education, feature comparisons and safety standards.
