 here–the week that Birmingham’s biggest designers and fashionistas have been waiting for: ESPN correspondent Niki Noto and national TV host and producer Tara Gray will lead designers’ work (like Gunnar Deatherage, Laura Kathleen, and Heidi Elnora) down the Birmingham Fashion Week runway with the help of local models.

A Taste of Uptown

Join Uptown for the 2nd Annual “A Taste of Uptown,” an event that features food samples from each of Uptown’s restaurants: Bottle & Bone, Cantina Laredo, Mugshots, Octane, Texas de Brazil, The Southern Kitchen and Bar, and Todd English P.U.B. This year’s tickets partially benefit Sidewalk Film Festival.

Pepper Place stays open late this Thursday from 5 – 8 p.m. for a myriad of reasons: Chef Chris Hastings is headlining the evening to debut his new restaurant Ovenbird; Charlie Thigpen’s Gallery Garden will be hosting “Art In the Garden” with floral designer Bradley Gilbert; The Pepper Place Pop-Up Shop will showcase new fashion designers as part of Birmingham Fashion Week; and King’s House Antiques, King’s House Oriental Rugs, Interiors at Pepper Place, Richard Tubb, and Cantley & Company will stay open late.

Birmingham Art Crawl

It’s time for Birmingham Art Crawl, an event that partners businesses and residents to bring people to the cultural and historical center of the city and showcase Birmingham’s deep and energetic pool of creative talent. Come to downtown Birmingham on Thursday from 5:30 – 9 p.m. for live music, local food, and artisans from around Birmingham.

 for teenage girls going through that angst stage; she’s a widely-known feminist, human rights activist, and environmentalist; and her jazz, soul, and electronica-based poetry is coming to Birmingham at Iron City on Friday night.

Built To Spill

Built To Spill, the Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Stereogum, and Paste magazine-vetted indie-rock band, is helping christen Avondale’s new music venue: Saturn. Come for great tunes in a brand new space that hopefully wasn’t “built to spill.”

Of Montreal
May 8

Throughout the band’s existence, Of Montreal’s musical style has evolved from late ’60s Beatles and Kinks-influenced psychedelic pop to a mixture of electronica, funk, and afrobeat music influenced by Prince, Talking Heads and David Bowie. If you like those music genres, check them out this Friday night at Zydeco.

Get ready for the Girls on the Run 5K, an event that combines exercise, positive reinforcement, and encouraging role models to help girls discover the confidence they need in those critical pre-teen years. Through interactive activities such as running, playing games and discussing important issues, participants learn how to celebrate being their unique and real selves.

St. Jude Field of Dreams

The inaugural St. Jude Field of Dreams will be held on Saturday at Regions Field to raise awareness and funding for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and honor former University of Alabama at Birmingham football coach Bill Clark. 
Show up at 6:30 p.m. for southern-inspired cuisine stations, a live and silent auction, and musical entertainment.

The Great Give

Public Libraries in Birmingham

The Jefferson County Library Cooperative are hosting The Great Give, an online funding campaign that will help further the significant work of the 40 municipal libraries in the Jefferson County area. Contributors are encouraged to post a “selfie” (#TheGreatGive) along with a caption explaining why they love their local library.

Bring the party to the green as you watch the legends of golf compete at breathtaking Shoal Creek! Names such as Fred Couples, Colin Montgomerie, Bernhard Langer, Tom Watson and many more will be right in our own backyard. Also, celebrities such as Coach Nick Saban, Coach Gus Malzahn, the Honorable Condoleezza Rice, Legendary Bo Jackson, Joe Namath, and many more will be playing in the celebrity pro-am on Wednesday, May 13th. Tickets start at only $20 and children 18 & under are admitted free with a ticketed adult.
