The 17th annual Sidewalk Film Festival happens this weekend in downtown Birmingham. Check out B-Metro’s fave films here.

Iron Cinema: Pulp Fiction

Iron City

Iron City’s summer film series “Cults, Classics, & Comedies” continues with a screening of Quentin Tarantino’s hit Pulp Fiction. The movie is free and begins at 8 p.m.–arrive early for a tasting of craft beer and cocktails or order from the full dinner menu while you watch the film.

Magic City Mix

Alabama Theatre

Join B-Metro as we kick off Sidewalk Film Festival with our annual Magic City Mix music party taking place on 3rd Ave North outside the Alabama Theatre. You’ll hear live performances by three of our featured musicians: Steel City Jug Slammers, Mandi Rae, and Future Elevators (pictured).

Birmingham Barons

Play ball! Cheer on the Birmingham Barons as they face off against the Chattanooga Lookouts this week on the home field.  

Canoe & Kayak Trip

Soak up the final days of summer with a relaxing canoe and kayak trip in Wadley, AL with Southeastern Outings. Novice canoeists are welcome as long as they are paired with an experienced canoeist, and both canoes and kayaks will be available for rent.


Taste of 4th Avenue Jazz Festival

Since 2003, this wildly popular jazz festival has taken over downtown Birmingham, offering a taste of our city’s rich cultural heritage. This year’s lineup of regional and national musicians includes Clarence Albright III, Sean Michael Ray, Cleve Eaton, and Marquita Anthony.  


Tailgate Challenge Block Party

Celebrate the upcoming football season while supporting The Bell Center’s early intervention programs. Taste tailgating food at team tents and enjoy an afternoon of music, kid-friendly events, and of course, some good old fashioned team rivalry.  


Downright Brewfest

Jam to local music all afternoon and night at this 4th annual music and beer festival hosted by past B-Metro band to watch Downright. The event is family- and pet-friendly and also features a mobile rock climbing wall and metal casting workshop.   


STEM Launch Event

Highlands School

Renowned for its rigorous preschool through 8th grade academics, the independent Highlands School invites the community to get the first glimpse of its new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program with exciting live lab demos.

At this kickoff event, local prominent buildings will light up in teal throughout the month of September in honor of ovarian cancer awareness. Play fun games, listen to live music, and witness a memorial ceremony and survivor celebration to support the cause.
