Bruce Bright + Karen Royal

Though they may work in seemingly unrelated businesses, our one-on-one subjects this month found plenty of common ground around the American dream of home.

Bruce Bright spends his days bringing together home buyers and home sellers as president and CEO of Jefferson Title Company. Bright, a retired USMC Lieutenant Colonel, is a Birmingham native, spent 28 years in service with the U.S. Marine Corps. His service included four years as an infantryman and 24 years as a Marine F/A-18 fighter pilot.

Bright joined the civilian workforce in 2007 as director of business development at a commercial real estate investment firm in Birmingham. During his time at the firm, Bright was involved in over $100 million in investment transactions and earned the prestigious designation of Certified Commercial Investment Member.

In 2010, as a Certified Professional Coach, Bright became the founder and chief energy officer of On Target Leading, a peak performance leadership coaching firm for business executives and their companies. Bright is a current doctoral candidate for a degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology; he also holds a Masters in Strategic Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Education.

At the beginning of 2017, Colonel Bright also took over the reins of Jefferson Title Corporation. Founded in 1967, Jefferson Title Corporation specializes in providing title and closing services across Alabama. Jefferson Title has investigated and insured hundreds of thousands of properties throughout Alabama over its  50 years of service.

Karen Royal, an Auburn design grad, runs the brick and mortar showroom for South Cypress, the Internet-based purveyor of top-line flooring and tile. The showroom is located near Pepper Place, right in the heart of Birmingham’s flourishing design district.

Royal spends her days connecting with consumers and designers and bringing great design and products to customers throughout the region.

The company is a third-generation family business that grew from flooring retail roots in Mobile. With the evolution of the Internet, the opportunity to provide flooring products on a more extensive scale was realized, and so in 2005 was born.
