Love Story: Paul David + Haley

Once upon a time, there was a boy, Paul David Houston, 36, and a girl, Haley Spates, 38, who grew up together not knowing that were destined for a storybook romance. One day, all their dreams came true when he got down on one knee and popped the question. This is their love story…

How did you two meet?

PD: We have known each other since elementary age. Her brother and I played on the same baseball team.

H: I don’t remember a time in life when I didn’t know Paul David. Our families were friends and I always thought he was cute!

What is your favorite thing to do together as a couple?

PD: We love to watch game shows, like “Wheel of Fortune” and “Family Feud.” I always win.

H: We watch game shows together. I let him think he always wins!

PD: I love her smile and her laugh. If I hear her laughing, I know she is happy and that makes me happy.

H: It’s his ability to make me feel like I am the only one in a room. He makes me feel so secure in our relationship and makes it so easy to trust him.

Tell me about the proposal from your own perspective.

PD: I knew Haley was a Disney fanatic and her favorite princess was Cinderella, so I went with a Disney princess theme. I had a horse drawn carriage pick her up and bring her to me and her daughters, who were dressed up as Tinkerbell and Mickey. I gave her a pair of glass slippers and got down on one knee.

H: I was completely surprised! I came home to a blue dress with a note and rose. A horse drawn carriage drove me to Paul David and my daughters. When I arrived, “When You Wish Upon a Star” was playing. He bent down on one knee and proposed. Everyone was crying tears of joy.

PD: The professional service was amazing! They made me feel at ease and had so many options to choose from. I got a heart-shaped ring and catch her checking out the sparkle all the time.

H: I love it more than words! We went together to pick out my wedding band and the service was outstanding. The rings are so beautiful and I get compliments every day!

Now that you’ve found “the one,” what advice would you give to someone else about love?

PD: It’s worth waiting. Don’t listen to the outside noise of, time is ticking, or are you ever going to find someone and settle down? It doesn’t matter how old you are—happiness and love are worth waiting for.

H: Love is so much more than words. Love is a verb and anyone that can make you feel love without words is someone special.

And they lived… happily ever after.
