One on One March ’12

This month’s One on One conversation centered on connections. We paired up Audrey Pannell with Denise Koch. Both women work in the related but separate fields of public relations and event management. The conversation ranged from the ingredients of a great party to how social media is changing the world.

Audrey Pannell currently serves as the director of public relations and social media at Style Advertising, where she develops, coordinates and executes public relations, marketing and social media campaigns and also serves as a liaison between the media and a wide array of clients in all industry sectors.  She has crafted campaigns for leading and emerging brands, including Fortune 500 companies, government entities, law firms, non-profit organizations and new businesses.  Audrey brings an edge to client campaigns with her firm understanding of the impact of social media techniques in developing and implementing public relations and marketing campaigns.

Prior to Style Advertising, Audrey was the public relations and social media coordinator for another local public relations firm, where she created numerous public relations and marketing campaigns for a wide array of clients and led the agency in its social media implementation and development.
Outside the office, Audrey is heavily involved in the community, serving as board member and public relations chair for both the Young Professionals of Birmingham and also the Junior Board of the Autism Society of Alabama. In addition, Audrey is a member of the Rotaract Club of Birmingham and the Public Relations Society of Alabama. She is a contributor to The Pillars LLC, an online magazine highlighting Birmingham’s most remarkable businesses, people and cultural offerings. Audrey was also named Ms. Young Hot Birmingham Professional 2010 by the Young Professionals of Birmingham for her philanthropic efforts in raising more than $5,400 for the Autism Society of Alabama.
Audrey received her Bachelor’s degree in public relations and minor in business administration from Auburn University in 2009, graduating with cum laude honors.

Denise Koch is both the owner and project manager of Denise Koch Events, LLC, a full-service event planning, production and management firm. Her overall goal is to not only meet, but exceed, all expectations by focusing on high-quality service and client satisfaction. If you have had the opportunity to work with her, you would know that this is not just a goal, but a way of life for Denise.
Denise provides clients with a turn-key solutions to event planning, production and management services. In addition to the event planning component of her company, she has considerable expertise in securing funding and sponsors for both non-profit organizations and for-profit ventures. Some of her clients include Auburn University, The Sidewalk Film Festival, Secret Stages Music Festival, Fiesta: Alabama’s Premier Celebration of Hispanic Arts and Culture, and B-Metro magazine.

Denise is a native of Birmingham and a graduate of John Carroll High School. She then went on to graduate from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor’s degree in advertising and a double minor in marketing and Spanish. Denise has been married to her husband, John Koch, for eight years. She says her most important role in life is being a mother to her two sons, Nicholas (5 years) and Vincent (18 months).

“It is my responsibility, as the project manager, to ensure that my clients and their guests enjoy, are engaged in, and leave the event looking forward to the next one” Denise says. “In our community, people have the opportunity to attend a variety of events, and I want my clients to feel like I have done everything possible to give individuality to their organization, product or brand. My reward comes from the positive feedback that my clients receive from their guests.”
