Corey Smith
The Alabama Theatre
, 8:00 PM

After previous successful post-Christmas shows in Birmingham, Corey Smith has decided to come back and do it again this year! Corey Smith’s soulful Americana song-writing on youthful misadventures, family & home ignited a fan-base that has swelled beyond imagining for an artist who has neglected record labels and done the heavy lifting himself. Known for his accessibility with fans at concerts, his savvy use of alternative media and understanding of digital music distribution, Smith’s grassroots following just gets greener every year. He’s regarded as one of country music’s hottest new artists and a quintessentially indie performer. Smith was recently named one of country music’s hottest new artists by Country Weekly and Music Row Magazine and was featured on the cover of Pollstar as a Hotstar Top Artist. Don’t miss the chance to see Corey Smith LIVE at the Alabama on 12/27! More details here

This is the time of year, as winter really starts to fasten its grip on its surroundings, when diehard nature lovers wander outdoors and into the wild! A moonlight hike is the ideal opportunity to close the old year and welcome the approach of the new! Meet at the Ruffner Road gate on the Irondale side of the mountain to join the group hike to the wetlands (Please note: this hike leaves from the Ruffner Rd. entrance, NOT the Visitor Center).  Enjoy the glow of the moon, star gazing through a telescope (if the night is clear) and light refreshments, including hot chocolate. Leashed dogs welcome. It’s a moderate two mile hike and reservations are required.  More details here

Zac Brown Band
Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center, 12/29, 7:00 PM

It’s not New Year’s Eve, but it’s close. And you can bet that fans will be ready to celebrate at the BJCC Arena with the Zac Brown Band! The country-rock group, which includes Gardendale drummer Chris Fryar, will perform with guest artists Blackberry Smoke and Levi Lowrey. The Zac Brown Band, based in Atlanta, is touring on the strength of a new record, Uncaged, which shot to the top of the Billboard charts upon its release in July. Brown, a former chef, and his band-mates are favorites in Birmingham, with a fairly long history of playing smaller venues around town before earning national acclaim with The Foundation in 2008. As their fame has grown, so has the size of the concert hall. The Zac Brown Band now has a Grammy to its credit, and awards from the Academy of Country Music, the Country Music Association and CMT.  This Birmingham show will be a big one, but it will also feel a bit like coming home for the holidays – for band and fans alike!
