The David Mayfield Parade
w/ Feather Canyon

Bottletree, 3/27, 9:00 PM

Hitting the road as bassist (and newly minted lead guitarist) with Jessica Lea Mayfield in 2008 was the first leg of a musical journey that has gathered to David Mayfield song-writing success and fellow musicians who have nurtured his direction. It was on the road with Jessica that Avett Brothers, Scott and Seth took notice of Mayfield’s musicianship and the three quickly developed a friendship. They invited David to sit in with them dozens of times including their 2010 Bonnaroo & Merlefest sets. After urging him to make a record of his own, the Avett’s were quick to lend their voices when he got to the studio. David Mayfield Parade is the culmination of that encouragement. His music and showmanship reflect the numerous influences that come from a lifetime of being immersed in American music. Mayfield channels its unique forms with inspiration, from the howl of early rock-n-roll, to the low lonesome twang of folk and country… with a voice that is all at once heartbreaking and inherently hopeful. Subsequently, the Nirvana exposure and the strength of the single “Backwater” helped lift the Meat Puppets to new commercial heights. Following periods of hiatus and independence, the Meat Puppets have reunited for tours and are prepping to release a new album “Rat Farm” next month!
