Anthony Bourdain: Guts and Glory
Alys Stephens Center, 11/1, 7:00 PM

Dubbed “the bad boy of cuisine” for his rock-star look and blunt observations about the world of restaurants, chefs and cooking, Anthony Bourdain makes his first visit to the Magic City for an evening filled with eyebrow-raising stories and behind-the-scenes insights. As host of the Travel Channel’s popular shows, “Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations” and “The Layover,” he also is the honorary chef-at-large at New York’s famed bistro Les Halles. As an author, Bourdain’s books “Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly,” and “Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook” are bestsellers. In all of these roles, he has played a major role in shaping the world of food in America. There will be a VIP post-show party featuring Bourdain-inspired heavy hors d’oeuvres from Bottega Restaurant and Café, complimentary beer and wine, and a meet-and-greet with Bourdain! Rubblebucket & Reptar
w. StepDad

WorkPlay, 11/4, 8:00 PM

Rubblebucket has spent the last four years building a reputation as a band that blurs the lines between psychedelic indie rock, upbeat dance, and radiant, left-field arrangements. The Brooklyn, New York ( by way of Boston and Vermont) band has evolved into something that is “utterly post-genre-horns, synth, guitars, harmonies-a smile-inducing point on the tangent that connects Björk and Broken Social Scene”, which is to say that you never know what you’ll see or hear next. Winding up a banner year that brought Rubblebucket to the stages of Bonnaroo (and a surprise guest appearance with Foster the People) they’ve been on the receiving end of love and affection from Paste, Rolling Stone, Stereogum, Wall Street Journal, and Daytrotter as well as a debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Catch their unique vibe at WorkPlay this weekend! More details here

Gregg Allman:
LIVE at The Alabama Theatre

The Alabama Theatre, 11/7, 8:00 PM

As a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band and in his own storied solo career, Gregg Allman is celebrated as a gifted natural interpreter of the blues. His soulful and distinctive voice is one of the defining sounds in the history of American music. With the Allman Brothers Band, he made an early mark on the music scene for his fresh songwriting chops that ran from bluesy scorcher “Whipping Post” to folk-flavored “Midnight Rider” to tender ballads like “Melissa”.  Adding in his phenomenal vocal styling, it was no surprise to fans and audiences when Rolling Stone magazine listed Allman as one of their “100 Greatest Singers of All Time”. Still going strong and still growing songs, Greg Allman’s live show at the Alabama Theater is a grand opportunity to hear one of music’s biggest singer/songwriter legends! More details here
