Drive-By Truckers

The Lyric Theatre 
 
English Oceans, the 12th release by Athens, Georgia’s Drive-By Truckers, is an elegantly balanced and deeply engaged new effort that finds the group refreshed and firing on all cylinders. All but one of the collection’s 13 new songs, written by singer-guitarists and co-founding members Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley, were recorded during 13 days of sessions with longtime producer David Barbe.

Coppélia and the Toymaker

Dorothy Jemison Day Theater, Alabama School of Fine Arts
 
This performance presented by Alabama Ballet follows Dr. Coppelius, an inventor who has made a life-size dancing doll. It is so lifelike that Franz, a village youth, becomes infatuated with it and sets aside his true heart’s desire, Swanhilde. She shows him his folly by dressing as the doll, pretending to make it come to life.

 

Lebanese Food and Cultural Festival 

April 8-9
St. Elias Maronite Church 
 
Be a part of this two day event featuring the food and culture of Lebanon. Authentic food includes kibbee, grape leaves, tabouleh, grilled chicken, homus, baklawa, and more. Enjoy children’s dancing and a professional Lebanese band nightly.

 

Reading, Writing, & Rhythms 

April 9, 3-10 p.m.
Avondale Brewing Company


Spend an afternoon of fun at Avondale Brewing Company with live music and Avondale beer. This year’s music lineup includes Rollin’ in the Hay, Jameson Elder, Jeremy Moore, and Joel Madison Blount
. The event supports Better Basics’ literacy intervention programs for children across Alabama. 

 

CahabaQue BBQ Cookoff

Come out and support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama. Enjoy delicious beer, amazing food, and good company. Bounce house, video games, and Skeeball make this event even more family friendly.

 

Asian Cultures and Food Festival

Shop vendor bazaars, meet people from different cultures, stroll cultural educations booths, enjoy Asian entertainment, and sample many kinds of Asian food.

 

Girls Inc.’s 6th Annual Cajun Cook-off

April 9, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Railroad Park


Enjoy taste-testing of all of your Cajun favorites including gumbo, jambalaya, red beans, and rice and much more. Your vote will help determine the winner of the cooking competition. Proceeds benefit Girls Inc. programs.
