37th Annual Sam Lapidus Montclair Run
November 28 at 8:30 AM
The LJCC
This annual event includes a 10K and a 1-mile fun run bright and early on Thanksgiving morning. Proceeds will benefit the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s of Alabama and the LJCC Fitness Program.

World AIDS Day Concert
December 1 from 5 – 6:30 PM
First United Methodist Church

This inaugural concert, which is free and open to the public, will feature performances by several local chorus groups, including the First United Methodist Choir, Metro Birmingham Youth Choir, and Magic City Choral Society among others. Have dinner at Silvertron Cafe after the concert, where proceeds will be donated to Birmingham AIDS Outreach.

Annual Christmas Tree Lighting

December 3 at 5:00 PM
Linn Park

Christmas is on its way! Celebrate with the community at our city’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting. The evening’s festivities will include live entertainment by the 16th St. Baptist Church Orchestra and youth choir, ASFA brass ensemble, and Magic City Choral Society. You won’t want to miss the 4th Avenue Christmas parade and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus!


Southern Fried Chanukah
December 3 from 5 – 7:00 PM
The LJCC
This Hanukkah celebration is festive with a Southern twist! Try your hand at the 1st annual Latke Throwdown, or play in the “World Series of Dreidal,” where your best spin might just make you the winner of the fierce dreidel competition. Finally, enjoy a Southern fried Chanukah dinner with friends and family.

Birmingham Boys Choir
36th Annual Christmas Concert

December 3 at 7:30 PM
Canterbury Methodist Church

At this year’s annual concert, the Birmingham Boys Choir will be joined by choir alumni and fathers of current choristers. This event continues to mark the beginning of the holiday season for hundreds of people in Birmingham. Admission is free and open to the public.


Meet the Artists Reception
December 4 from 7 – 9:00 PM
Aldridge Gardens Museum
Meet the two artists who will have their works displayed at the Aldridge Art & Historical Collections Museum through January 2014. Samuel K. Collins’ mixed-media pieces combine pop art with American landscapes, while Amy P. Collins’ oil paintings are inspired by people, places, and animals.

Tickled Teal

Comedy Club Stardome
This second annual comedy fundraiser stars Etta May, the Queen of Southern Sass. Doors open at 6:00 PM, so arrive early to socialize and purchase dinner, drinks, or snacks. The show supports the CanSurvive GYN Cancer Support Group and the Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Foundation.

It’s a Wonderful Life Live Radio Play
December 5 – 8
Fultondale City Hall

The play, inspired by the classic American film, is performed as a 1940s live radio broadcast in front of a studio audience. Five actors perform the dozens of characters in the radio play as well as produce the sound effects. Enjoy a dessert reception before the show on opening night and breakfast with Santa before the show on 12/7.

The Magic City Nutcracker

Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church

Now in its second year, the Magic City Nutcracker portrays a highly sophisticated version of the classic Nutcracker ballet, all performed by local talent. A portion of proceeds from each performance will be donated to area charities.

Festival of Trees

This annual exhibit is now in its 24th year, and it is just as spectacular as ever. More than 30 trees have been decorated with ornaments created by children in 30+ local schools. This year’s theme, “Let it Snow!” is sure to bring holiday cheer.
