‘Mannheim Steamroller Christmas’

The 7th Annual Holiday Craft Bazaar
Forest Park & South Avondale

The 7th Annual Holiday Craft Bazaar takes place during the first weekend of December and is the premiere destination for holiday gift shoppers interested in original handmade products and shopping at local merchants in the area. Over 40 crafters and artists will be selling their handcrafted wares inside storefronts and empty retail spaces along 41st Street South, in Forest Park Village and South Avondale. Local merchants will be open as well for shopping, eating and drinking! Find open doors at Naked Art, Silvertron Cafe, V Richards, Zoe’s, Little Savannah, Bottletree, 41st Street Bar and Aircraft Sales, Full Circle …AND The Avondale Brewery will be open for tours and drinks! for ‘El Pueblo’:
Works by Local Latino Artists

Avondale Bricks Gallery

The opening reception for El Pueblo, an exhibition of works by local Latino artists at Avondale Bricks Gallery, is adding extra Latin flavor for the evening! Enjoy your favorite Mexican tapas from the popular Homewood restaurant Little Donkey, who is bringing delicious tamales, elote, and cabra verde to serve , along with South American wines for  tasting. Door prizes from Little Donkey add an extra kick to the event!  Also on exhibit will be the completely original ‘Transformations’ by local artist Palo Pallas, and a Cuban art exhibition with works by artists showing in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and London’s Tate Modern.  In the holiday spirit of Navidad, bring women’s clothes you don’t wear any more. My Sister’s Closet will be collecting them to help  needy women dress up for that job interview that could make the holiday brighter for their families this season. More details here

and Hanging of the Greens

The Historic Arlington Mansion 11/30, 6:00 PM

See one of Birmingham’s historic and architectural treasures in its original light as the mansion opens the doors for a rare candlelight tour! On Friday night at 6:00 PM as Parker High School Choir and The Clay-Chalkville Chamber Choir chime in with ‘Silent Night’, the Honorable William A. Bell will hang the wreath on the doors before they are cast open for this unique experience. Heavy hors d’oeuvres and wine will be served afterward in the Garden Room. Tickets for the Candlelight tour are $20 at the door. The historic Arlington Home will also host a FREE holiday open house on Saturday 12/1 (10-4pm) and Sunday 12/2 (1-4pm). Complimentary light hors d’oeuvres will be served Saturday and Sunday in the Garden Room – with music of the season provided by Shades Valley Lutheran Recorder Consort and Choristers, Alabama School of Fine Arts, Birmingham-Southern College Vocal Ensemble, Samford University Brass Quintet, Birmingham Girls’ Choir, Mountain Brook High School ABOG, Pleasant Grove High School Chorale, and Hueytown High School Singers. Willie Nelson LIVE at the Alabama
The Alabama Theatre, 12/1, 8:00 PM
The Texas flag will be unfurled in Birmingham, when Willie Nelson performs at the Alabama Theatre on December 1st. This gesture, celebrating the Lone Star State, is a staple at Nelson’s concerts, along with a selection of his greatest hits. This time, however, the Red Headed Stranger just might present a cover of Coldplay’s  The Scientist, and a few other songs from his new record, “Heroes,” which came out in May featuring country classics, contemporary pop songs, and Willie Nelson originals. Nelson, 79, a Texas native, made his fame with tunes such as Georgia On My Mind, Whiskey River, Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain, On the Road Again, If You’ve Got the Money I’ve Got the Time and Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground. They’ve become beloved anthems for fans, and touchstones in a vast recording catalog that spans more than 60 studio albums. More details here

Birmingham Children’s Theatre Presents:  Peter Pan

In this thrilling musical adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, follow Peter and Tinker Bell from the nursery window of the Darling household to their home in Neverland. Wendy, John, and Michael Darling are in for the time of their lives as they help Peter discover the true meaning of loyalty and friendship, all while doing their best to avoid Peter’s arch nemesis, Captain Hook, and his motley crew of pirates. Grab a handful of fairy dust and soar away with Peter and friends as the Birmingham Childrens Theatre presents this magical production!  Just head for the second star on the right and straight on till morning! The Sunset Sessions Tour:
Featuring DUNCAN SHEIK, Alpha Rev, Courrier
and Laura Warschauer

After breaking through in the late ’90s with his Top 20 single “Barely Breathing,” Duncan Sheik spent much of the subsequent decade taking a breather from the usual rock singer/songwriter rituals. His focus shifted to theatrical musicals like ‘Spring Awakening’, the Broadway sensation that won him 2 Tony Awards and a Grammy. Sheik has done some coming of age of his own, going from theater outsider to Tony winner and favorite of hard-boiled stage critics. Duncan Sheik will be performing at WorkPlay with Alpha Rev, Courrier and Laura Warschauer as part of the Sunset Sessions Tour which is also supporting a food drive! Bring two or more canned goods and you can get into the “Meet and Greet” after the show with the artists while helping to stock the pantry of a local food bank!  More details here

Performing her song chosen for the upcoming Miss America Pageant as well as Christmas standards, Anna Laura Bryan will also be signing autographs and taking pictures with visitors.
