BSC‘s theatre department opens their 2013-14 season with ReEntry, a powerfully innovative play about coming home from war. The play is based on several extensive interviews with Marines and their families as they recount the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. A forum led by BSC president General Charles Krulak will be held 10/1 at 11:00 AM in the college theatre.

Alabama Ballet at Home

Alabama Ballet Center for Dance

This six-performance dance series opens the company’s 2013-14 season. The performances feature selected repertory, including an encore of George Balanchine’s “Allegro Brillante,” performed in the Ballet’s home studio. Enjoy complimentary drinks alongside a beautiful live performance.

“Boo at the Zoo” presented by Wells Fargo invites guests to wear their favorite family-friendly costume and watch as the zoo transforms into a destination of spooky attractions, trick-or-treating, themed rides and games. Bark in the Park

The Shelby Humane Society presents this all-day event for both man and man’s best friend. Take part in contests, music, children’s activities, live entertainment and the Mutt Strut, a mile-long walk in which participants have the option to raise money to benefit Shelby Humane Society. Entry to Bark in the Park is free and full of fun for the whole family, including family members with tails!

Bluff Park Art Show

Bluff Park Community Center

This popular annual art show features works from more than 150 area and national artists, which will be on display and available for purchase. Proceeds will benefit the greater Birmingham area’s current community project. This all-ages event is free and sure to showcase some incredible works.

Birmingham PhotoWalk

Birmingham Botanical Gardens

The Scott Kelby Worldwide PhotoWalk in Birmingham invites all who love photography–regardless of skill level–to participate in this free activity. Following a group leader around the park, attendees will take pictures of the beautiful gardens. Afterwards, the group leader will select the best photo of the walk, which will be entered into the worldwide PhotoWalk competition. Pro photo equipment not necessary.

A Visual and Performance Art Extravaganza

Das Haus German Club

Local performance troupe Erynias Tribe presents an evening of art and entertainment this Saturday. Visual art, including paintings, photography, sculpture, handmade jewelry and more will be on display and available for purchase. Musicians, dancers of multiple genres, digital art and other amazing talents will entertain throughout the evening.

Hearts for Hasberry 5K

Veteran’s Park

This 5K supports Greg Hasberry, an athletic coach and father currently undergoing treatment for a double kidney failure. The run was developed by a group of individuals who have all been touched by Greg and want to give back to him by helping with the cost associated with seeking a kidney.

Hot Strings Music & Arts Festival

The 4th Annual Hot Strings Festival is all about music, food, fun, family & friends, and it all benefits The Foundry‘s recovery programs. Keller Williams and The Travelin’ McCourys

This weekend, Keller Williams performs his signature one-man-band solo sets and collaborates with The Travelin’ McCourys. Other bands performing include Dread Clampitt, Barry Waldrep, Herb Trotman Band and Red Clay Revival. Doors open at 1 PM, music starts at 2 PM, and Keller Williams goes on at 8 PM.
