Art on the Rocks

Make plans to attend the BMA’s ninth season of Art on the Rocks, a sundown series filled with live music, creative expression, themed beverages, and specialty foods. Every AOTR event will feature live art collaborations, a photo booth, giveaways, and much more!

This week’s event showcases musical guests The Weeks, The Heavy Hearts, and DJ COCO. There will also be performances by ArtPlay Contemporary Ensemble, Opera Birmingham, multimedia VJs John and Katie Gaiser, and a “Canvas to Catwalk” fashion show by Gus Mayer!

The event will feature over a dozen of the country’s top jewelry designers, who will be flown in exclusively for this event to showcase their jewelry collections. Designers include Henri Daussi, A. Jaffe, Tacori, Scott Kay, Fana, Romantique, Classique, Novell, Benchmark, and Christian Bauer.

4th Annual “Park in the Park” Car Show
July 20 from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Avondale Park

Car enthusiasts of all ages will enjoy a showcase of more than 200 antique and customized cars from regional car clubs at this retro-themed event! DJ Larry Huff will be spinning tunes from the 50’s and 60’s, and the Silvertron CafĂ© will be offering breakfast and lunch. Proceeds from the day will be shared with Magic Moments, who was picked as this year’s charity. The show is presented by the Forest Park South Avondale Business Association and REV Birmingham

The ladies of Birmingham’s Tragic City Rollers will strap on their skates and hit the track for a double-header roller derby bout this weekend! The Tragic City Rollers face off against the Mola Ram Mercenaries at 4:45, and the Tragic City All-Stars battle it out with Vette City Roller Derby at 7:00. Bring a folding chair and grab a spot on the floor close to the track for the best experience!

Bark After Dark

Yankee Pizzeria in Cahaba Heights 

Bring your pups, hang out on the “Pooch Patio,” and enjoy food and drink specials at this pet-friendly event! A portion of ticket sales will benefit the Animal League of Birmingham, which raises funds for non-profit rescues and shelters that support the health, welfare, and general well-being of animals in need. The Outlet Shops of Grand River announces the first ever Grand Haul Casting Call
 on Saturday, August 10th and 17th at The Grand Plaza from 1pm-4pm. Fashionistas will audition for their chance of becoming the next Grand Haul Star by showing off their ‘clothing haul’ video blog talents. Four different Grand Haul Stars will be chosen in the following categories:

    • Grand River Girl, a student, age 18-22, 16+ with parent signature

    • Grand River Professional, a young professional, age 23-29
    • Grand River Mom, a mom with children still at home, age 30+
    • Grand River Guy, a male, age 18+, 16+ with parent signature

The casting call will be held at The Outlet Shops of Grand River’s Grand Plaza, where participants will have the opportunity to show off their clothing and beauty knowledge in a 3-5 minute video. In the video, they will need to give a brief description of the item, including the store name and the price, as well as why they like it.

What makes this play so unique is that two men play over 20 eccentric characters and hilariously comment on Southern culture, attitudes, and life in a small town.

Fresh Ground Comics 10th Anniversary

Local stand-up comedy show Fresh Ground Comics is turning 10 years old! And what better way to celebrate the anniversary of a comedy show than with… well, a comedy show! “I’m very proud of what we’ve done and that we’ve stuck it out this long,” says founder Chris Davis. “I would love to have Birmingham know and share in it with me and the rest of my fellow comics and, of course, the people who are gracious enough to come to our show each month.

Glow in the Park

Get ready for the ultimate social running event! Glow in the Park is a 5K Fun Run that takes place just after dark, providing a unique experience with glow colors and lighting! The run includes “obstacles” along the course for runners to conquer, including foam pits, glow-water sprays, glow-powder dustings, and an inflatable slide into the finish! It all leads to a dance party at the end of the race. Proceeds from Glow in the Park will benefit the American Diabetes Association.
