Kayak & Canoe Trip

Labor Day Weekend @ The Zoo

Birmingham Zoo
Visit the zoo this holiday weekend and take advantage of the Birmingham Zoo’s many activities! Meet the animals, take a ride on the zipline, feed the giraffes, and cool off in the splash pads. Don’t miss the Red Diamond Sea Lion Splash Show or the butterfly garden before the exhibit closes for the season.

Every Saturday, Iron City will be showing SEC games all day long. Select games will be shown in the music venue on the 240 sq. ft. 23rd Annual Labor Day Celebration
September 1 from 8 AM – 4:00 PM
Tannehill State Park
On Labor Day, you can participate in Alabama’s largest moon pie eating contest and compete for prize money in both children and adult categories. Across the park, the United Mine Workers hold their annual Birmingham District Labor Day celebration. There’s also plenty of good BBQ and some picking and singing, too.

A State of Teal

Regions Field Banquet Room

Help raise awareness for ovarian cancer at this lighting ceremony at Regions Field. This event is open to the public and includes live music, food & drinks, and speakers to recognize families and survivors. At dusk, the “BIRMINGHAM” sign at the field will light up teal and will stay lit through the first week in September.

Harper’s Heart Run

September 6
Crestline Village

This inaugural 5K and 1-mile fun run benefits the Children’s Heart Foundation, the leading organization in funding congenital heart defect research in America. The run is named for a local baby girl, Harper, who was born with heterotaxy syndrome and will be undergoing open heart surgery sometime after her first birthday.
