Join Birmingham this week as we celebrate Vulcan’s 111th Birthday, start the month off with a creative boom at both the Birmingham Museum of Art and Birmingham Art Crawl’s First Thursday, support our local craft beer scene with Magic City 
Brew Fest, and listen to the Alabama Orchestra Symphony play underneath the stars at Railroad Park.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch

Virginia Samford Theatre

The Tony Award-winning Hedwig and the Angry Inch is 90 minutes of pure adrenaline, outrageous makeup, fabulous costumes, loud rock ‘n’ roll, and a fierce story about a life, love, and identity. Watch it live at Virginia Samford Theatre from June 2 through June 13.

First Thursday

Birmingham Museum of Art

On the first Thursday of each month, Birmingham Museum of Art stays open from 5 to 8 p.m. for the community to enjoy studio classes, tours, and film screenings. Enjoy Gallery Talk with interim curator of education Kristen Greenwood, a Drop-in and Draw art class, and Art On Stage with father/daughter duo artists Tres and Lillis Taylor (all over tapas and cocktails).


Birmingham Art Crawl

Downtown Birmingham

On the first Thursday of every month, Downtown Birmingham transforms into a walking art gallery full of artists, performers, food, and fun. Come out from 5-9 p.m. to support the local art community.

Jazz enthusiasts: Shine up your brass and get ready for the Steel City Jazz Fest at Linn Park on June 4 through June 6. Listen to those rough velvet riffs from over 25 local and national artists all weekend long.

Magic City Brew Fest

Sun’s hot, beer’s cold. Join Free the Hops and The J. Clyde for Magic City Brewfest, a weekend dedicated to learning about craft beer and sampling Alabama’s best liquid nectar. Come to try over 200 beers available, including many rare, specialty, and cask ales which have never been seen before in Alabama–and may never be seen again.

Symphony in the Summer

Try to make it to at least one of the three days of Symphony in the Summer to watch and listen to Alabama Symphony Orchestra as they perform this weekend at Railroad Park. Get ready to hear works like Appalachian Spring and Dvorak’s New World Symphony.

Seasick Records Grand Re-Opening

Seasick Records’ New Address

Seasick Records has packed up and moved to a new building (just across the street). Help them celebrate the new shop (at 5508 Crestwood Boulevard) with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., DJ sets from DJ Sinkhole and the Audiovore at 6 p.m., and PUJOL playing live at 8 p.m. Ono Ice will be onsite to keep things cool!

We’re all about diversity (Neapolitan, deep dish, New York-style, cheese-stuffed Sicilian, gourmet, thin crust) so let’s get to the core of what makes each one unique. Bottom line: it’s all pizza. Head to SliceFest on June 6 for celebrate all things pizza with an endless supply of specialty pies, local craft beer, and great live music.
