BSC Stirling Lecture 

Pursuit of Happyness hero Chris Gardner

Chris Gardner is the subject of the published autobiography and blockbuster movie The Pursuit of Happyness, a story chronicling his hard times and eventual comeback. In his Stirling Lecture at BSC, Gardner will share his extraordinary story illustrating the power of believing in yourself and your dreams. The event is free and open to the public.

Bards, Brews, & Haiku
March 7 at 6:30 PM
Birmingham Public Library – Central
Enjoy the usual poetry reading and beer sampling of “Bards & Brews,” but this time with a twist. Attendees will also enjoy Haiku readings, sake tastings, and music by Andy Harris. Plus, Japanese crafts will be for sale to raise funds for the restoration of Miss Iwate, the Japanese friendship doll that has been on display at the BPL since 1928.

Join 700 of your closest friends at this 9th annual fundraising event, where all proceeds benefit Cornerstone Schools of Alabama, a non-profit school dedicated to serving Birmingham’s inner city kids. Go out for some live music by Teenage Daddy, beverages, hors d’oeuvres, live and silent auctions, and fun giveaways.

Birmingham Ballet’s production of Hansel & Gretel brings together a delicious mix of eccentric characters, colorful images, exciting dancing, humorous moments, and a triumphant happy ending. Chili Cook-Off

Colonial Brookwood Village
This 10th annual all-ages event invites you to enjoy good food and good times supporting The Exceptional Foundation, which provides social and recreational activities to mentally and physically challenged individuals after they reach age 21. This year, 100 teams will be competing with their signature chili recipes, which attendees will get to sample and vote for their favorites.


Spirit of Sochi
March 8 from 11 AM – 3:00 PM

At this free, public family festival, watch the opening ceremonies of the Winter Paralympic Games from Sochi, Russia on large screen TVs. Try interactive games featuring several Olympic & Paralympic sports, plus enjoy great food from Birmingham’s food trucks and get autographs from Alabama Olympians and Parlympians.
