Pursuit of Happyness hero Chris Gardner
March 5 at 7:00 PM Birmingham-Southern College Bruno Great Hall
Chris Gardner is the subject of the published autobiography and blockbuster movie The Pursuit of Happyness, a story chronicling his hard times and eventual comeback. In his Stirling Lecture at BSC, Gardner will share his extraordinary story illustrating the power of believing in yourself and your dreams. The event is free and open to the public.

Good People is the Tony-nominated story of Margie, a down-on-her-luck single mother living on the mean streets of South Boston. However, when fate brings her face to face with an old boyfriend from high school, she may have a chance to get herself out of the gutter, once and for all.

Bards, Brews, & Haiku March 7 at 6:30 PM Birmingham Public Library – Central
Enjoy the usual poetry reading and beer sampling of “Bards & Brews,” but this time with a twist. Attendees will also enjoy Haiku readings, sake tastings, and music by Andy Harris. Plus, Japanese crafts will be for sale to raise funds for the restoration of Miss Iwate, the Japanese friendship doll that has been on display at the BPL since 1928. Learn more here!

Chili Cook-Off March 8 from 10 AM – 3:00 PM Colonial Brookwood Village
This 10th annual all-ages event invites you to enjoy good food and good times supporting The Exceptional Foundation, which provides social and recreational activities to mentally and physically challenged individuals after they reach age 21. This year, 100 teams will be competing with their signature chili recipes, which attendees will get to sample and vote for their favorites.

At this free, public family festival, watch the opening ceremonies of the Winter Paralympic Games from Sochi, Russia on large screen TVs.
