High Five Fest at Bottletree
Bottletree, August 11, $10 – $15

Good People Brewing are doing a tap takeover and supplying the finest draft beer Birmingham has to offer. The Barbecutioners are gonna be running the smoker all day and providing some seriously tasty grub…everything from Ninja Ribs to homemade tofu, plus sides and much more.  The Pinehill Haints, Model Citizen, Nowhere Squares lead the line-up of live music at this big deal on Saturday, August 11th. Doors open at 3 pm. Music and food start up at 4pm. A $10 cover gets you in, or $15 gets you in – PLUS – a sandwich and a fest coozie. Get your hands up for the High Five Fest! More details here

LEGO! DUPLO!
Read! Build! Play!

Birmingham Museum of Art

Build out the last days of summer and join LEGO DUPLO play leaders for a day of creative building fun filled with guided activities, inspirational songs and time for free build to create whatever inspires you. Tailored for children under five (but really, who’s too old for LEGO?), the experience engages, excites and encourages early literacy development, and sparks exploration. You’ll bring home some new ideas to encourage play and learning at home, too. It’s good to be a “blockhead”!  More details here

The Black Jacket Symphony Presents: Pink Floyd’s
‘Wish You Were Here’

WorkPlay, August 10 – 11,
8:00 PM

The Black Jacket Symphony, with 12 sold-out albums under its collective belt, returns to WorkPlay! The BJS offers a unique concert experience through recreating classic albums in a live performance setting. A selected album is performed in its entirety in the first set by a group of handpicked musicians specifically selected for each album, with no sonic detail being overlooked (the musicians do whatever it takes to musically reproduce the album). The second set, featuring the album artist’s “greatest hits” opens, in full contrast to the first set, with an incredible light display and the symphony being much more laid back.  Black Jacket Symphony has taken on albums from Hendrix, AC/DC, Led Zepplin and this weekend at WorkPlay … they present PINK FLOYD’s “Wish You Were Here”! Alabama Marketplace at Colonial Brookwood
August 11, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Alabama produce is cropping up at Colonial Brookwood Village every 2nd Saturday! Local food products, and produce from area farmers and growers offer the freshest taste of the state on the main street in front of Brookwood Village. Live music from Davis Nix and family entertainment are also on hand for the whole foodie family this Saturday from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM! More details here

Babypalooza

Hey, baby…It’s your day! Babypalooza, the baby and maternity expo, features over 100 exhibits throughout the gym and halls of St. Vincent’s One Nineteen. Designed for new, expectant, and hopeful parents, grandparents and anyone else who may have a hand in caring for a baby or toddler the expo focuses on providing information in a fun and energy filled environment. Sneak a Peek and a Taste of Birmingham Restaurant Week 2012!
