The Farewell Drifters

Dart Over and Dive In at Darter Phest
Good People Brewery, 8/23, 5:00 – 8:00 PM

Get in the swim of good things at Darter Phest, a campaign kick-off and Phishy fundraiser at the Good People Brewery! The Southern Environmental Center  Junior Board, in partnership with Good People Brewing, is initiating a campaign to save Birmingham’s endangered Watercress Darter with Darter Phest. The event will include live music by local band The Old Paints, free hors d’oeuvres, catering from Whole Foods and fabulous door prizes. A percentage of all beer sales will go toward preserving the fish’s habitat and educating the public about its value.  it’s an ideal opportunity to tip the “scales” in the favor of the Darter.  Is this fishy? You bet.  Dart on over and join the fun!

The 2nd Annual ‘The Taste of Birmingham’

and gives voice to two groups this year: Children’s of Alabama’s Asthma Program and our own Birmingham Boys Choir! The 14th Annual Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival, a celebration of new independent cinema returns to downtown Birmingham this weekend! Since its debut, filmmakers from across the country and around the world have come to Birmingham to screen their work at Sidewalk and have been thrilled to discover fresh, enthusiastic crowds eager to devour new independent cinema.  Low-priced weekend passes provide easy access to Sidewalk venues, encouraging attendees to seek out new films and sample programming they may not otherwise see. Parties, music panels and special offerings add even more to the film festival resulting in a diverse crowd rich united in a hunger for new film.

Art on Stage
Birmingham Museum of Art,

The BMA and the Birmingham Art Association (BAA) are going back to their roots to partner on this one-day art extravaganza! Watch artists test their skills in front of a live audience in a battle of the brushes. Audience members get the opportunity to participate in this interactive demonstration with some of Alabama’s most successful artists including Dori DeCamillis, Scott Bennett, Frank Fleming, and Barbara Evans; all renowned artists creating in the Birmingham area. Otey’s Boiling ‘N Bragging Tailgating Kick-Off Party
Otey’s, 8/25, 6:00 – 9:00 PM

The ultimate football season kick-off party is just around the corner! Football fans and seafood lovers are invited to Otey’s Tavern from 6 – 9 p.m for Boiling N’ Bragging, a benefit for the Critical Care Transport program at Children’s of Alabama.
Bringing football fans of all stripes together for the fourth straight year, the Rotary District 6860 and the Rotaract Club of Shelby County are hosting an all-you-can-eat cookout and low country boil. Guests will enjoy live music from Sean “Rockstar” Heninger, $1 beer specials, kids’ activities, sports trivia and a celebrity appearance by Lance Taylor from WJOX’s Roundtable.
