Birmingham Barons vs. Montgomery Biscuits

The 2013 season proved to be one of the most memorable in the long and storied history of Birmingham baseball as the Barons celebrated their return to downtown with the franchise’s 14th Championship. Cheer on the Barons as they play against the Montgomery Biscuits this week.

Dining for Dads Fundraiser
June 12 – all day
Participating Restaurants

Father’s Day will arrive a few days early at 10 local restaurants and cafes. At this 5th annual fundraiser, eat at one of the participating local restaurants, and they will donate a portion of their sales to the Firehouse Shelter, which provides meals, emergency shelter and clothing for homeless men.

The Art of Alabama Food Exhibit
June 12 – 28
Pepper Place

The Alabama Tourism Department brings The Art of Alabama Food, a traveling exhibit inspired by the free “100 Dishes To Eat in Alabama Before You Die” mobile app. 36 images of dishes will entice guests and inform them about some of Alabama’s best local restaurants.

World Cup 2014 at Iron City

The World Cup comes once every 4 years. This year, Iron City will be Birmingham’s headquarters for all World Cup matches. The Iron City music venue will be transformed into world cup central where soccer fans can watch their favorite teams on a 240 square ft HD projector screen.

On Sunday, June 15th at 5 PM, Iron City invites you to a family-style beer dinner celebrating all dads with special guest Black Warrior Riverkeeper. The dinner features special beers from Trim Tab Brewing Company paired with a four-course meal prepared by Iron City Grill’s Executive Chef William Rogers.

FIFA World Cup at the Clyde

Celebrate one of the greatest sporting tournaments in the world, the FIFA World Cup! To allow you to enjoy each World Cup match in a wonderful pub atmosphere, J. Clyde will have extended hours and food/beverage specials available throughout the tournament.

National Sacred Harp Singing Convention

Did you know the National Sacred Harp Singing Convention was started in Birmingham in 1980? It still takes place in our city each year. There are no rehearsals and no performances at this event; if you love the unique tradition of Sacred Harp singing, be sure to attend as a listener or sing along as a participant.

PNC Presents Relax by the Tracks

Railroad Park

Relax by the tracks with free live music at Railroad Park! This after-work concert series, made possible by PNC and hosted by Railroad Park Foundation’s Junior Board, is open to everyone. Hear the best in local music while enjoying food and spirits from George’s Boxcar Cafe. This Friday evening features performances by musical guests Gabriel Tajeu and Shaheed Tawheed.

Now in its 10th season, this year’s Art on the Rocks celebrates Japanese culture by showcasing the talents of local musicians, artists, chefs, fashionistas, and performers. This week, enjoy live music by Seryn, a samurai photo booth, and a pop-up clothing shop.

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Rick and Bubba Show, this inaugural outdoor expo provides the ultimate Father’s Day weekend experience. The three-day event features outdoor retailers and exhibitions along with celebrities like Ted Nugent, Chuck Wicks, and Ronnie & Amy Shirley from Lizard Lick Towing.

Black Creek Arts Festival

Black Creek Park

This 4th annual festival hosted by Fultondale Arts Council features a a juried art show of more than 40 artists, food vendors, children’s hands-on art activities, and musical entertainment. This year’s featured artist is self-taught folk artist Brian Bohanan of Birmingham.

Butterfly Education and Awareness Day

Three of Birmingham’s most recognizable cultural institutions–the Birmingham Zoo, McWane Science Center, and Ruffner Mountain–are celebrating butterflies with a variety of fun and educational children’s activities, which include a “Hike for Tykes” and butterfly releases.

Southbound Music Festival

Avondale Brewing Co.

This 3rd annual music festival features 13 bands on two stages. Musicians performing include The Green Seed, Gabriel Tajeu, Heath Green and the Makeshifters, and Velouria among others. There will also be food trucks on site and, of course, tasty Avondale brews.
