B-Yourself: Connor Head

“I’m fascinated by forward thinking people who can predict trends and capitalize on opportunity, but I also respect people who know their core values and stick to them.  I’d like to ask someone like Herb Kelleher (co-founder of Southwest Airlines) how you decide where to stick to your guns and where to be open to innovation.”

-Connor Head

Name: Connor Head

Hometown: Albuquerque, New Mexico

Age: 23

Education: Auburn University Bachelor of Materials Engineering with a Minor in Business

What keeps me awake at night:

The fear of not living up to my potential

I am guilty of: overthinking things and getting stuck in my head

My best friend says I am: “He is very passionate about very unique interests. I’m not sure why Connor likes fish and plants and airplanes so much, but his passion about it makes you think you should care that much as well. I love listening to him talk about the things he loves.”

If you could meet anyone in the world who would it be and what would you say to them?

I’m fascinated by forward thinking people who can predict trends and capitalize on opportunity, but I also respect people who know their core values and stick to them.  I’d like to ask someone like Herb Kelleher (co-founder of Southwest Airlines) how you decide where to stick to your guns and where to be open to innovation.

What is your greatest extravagance? My kitchen knives and pots and pans.

What is your motto/mantra? “Get off your phone.”

What do you consider your greatest achievement? In the last three months I graduated from college and got engaged to the love of my life.

What trait do you most deplore in others? Insincerity. I think you can really tell when someone is putting on a front and trying to present themselves in a way that isn’t true to them. I don’t like that very much.

What are your most marked characteristics? Adventurous, thoughtful, and I really try to be consistent and genuine.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Being a grandfather.
I want to make the world a better place for my future children and I want to be the best father that I can.  When my kids grow up and start their own families I’ll know that I did at least a good enough job as a parent that someone else found my kids suitable for marriage.  Plus, I can’t wait to teach my grand kids how to fly fish and spend time outdoors.

Which living person do you most admire (non family)?

Mike Benfante
On 9/11 Mike carried a woman in a wheelchair he had never met before down 68 flights of stairs to safety.  Just an ordinary guy on what he thought would be an ordinary Tuesday who found within himself the ability to do an extraordinary thing.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

“Ya know?/Ya know what I mean?” at the end of every spoken sentence.

Last time I lied?

I don’t lie.

Celebrity Crush?

Young Alabama socialite, Rising Star in the world of Speech-Language Pathology, craft beer connoisseur, and former B-Yourself feature Haley Hawkins
