Bailey’s Best Bets

For New York Fashion Week

by Amy Lemley Bailey

Each Fashion Week throws me into a world of runway theatrics, Anna Wintour sightings, and lucid nights. This New York Fashion Week did not disappoint with backstage access at Lincoln Center, a Carolina Herrera show that made me want to jump up and scream ‘bravo’, and a swimwear collection accompanied by popsicles shown at Le Bain on top of The Standard hotel. presents Bailey’s Best Bets from New York Fashion Week:

1. Backstage at Nicole Miller – It is one thing to have a seat at the show and another to actually be standing by the designer herself as she fixes each model before she walks the runway. The energy backstage when the lights go up and the applauds and hugs that disperse when the lights go down is quite the experience. Locally Nicole Miller can be found at Saks Fifth Avenue.

2. Musically Inspired Billy Reid – With a pre-show visit from Ms. Wintour and a collection inspired by the American songwriter, Billy Reid created bohemian, folk and rock inspired clothes that were unique and different from any other designer. Locally Billy Reid can be found at Shaia’s.

3. Glasses Galore – Diane von Furstenberg not only showcased gorgeous frocks but chic frames on most her models. DVF can be found at Saks Fifth Avenue.

4. All Hail Herrera – Sophisticated clothes that left me speechless. The range and variety Carolina Herrera showcased on the runway was fashion at its best and the range and variety of the crowd with Nicki Minaj sitting by Anna Wintour proves that fashion brings people together.

5. Garden Party – From the first frock that graced the Tadashi Shoji runway you knew that each gown was inspired by a floral garden. Bumble bee patterned dresses and soft sequins blossomed in his Spring 2012 collection. Tadashi Shoji can be found at Saks Fifth Avenue.

6. Swimsuits and Popsicles – At Le Bain on top of The Standard hotel Prism presented their swimwear and glasses collection for spring with models eating popsicles on the hot, end of summer day.
