Glamour Goal : Be Creative

Challenge: Engage in a Creative Outlet

Creativity is the process from which all things come into existence. Everything! Each of us gets to contribute our own unique little visions to the world. I believe that we are all creative human beings and that everyone has the ability to create something from his or her own imagination. Using our imaginations, getting those juices flowing, adds another level or dimension to life in a way that no other pursuit can. And our creativity can be used in just about any area of our lives—so the opportunities for engaging it are endless.

Your challenge this month is to take up a creative pursuit. I think using our creativity helps unlock many pieces of our personalities and guarantees that life remains fascinating. Don’t be fearful (fear again!) of trying on different roles and exploring different sides of your personality, maybe even discovering who you really feel yourself to be.

It’s up to you to discover (or rediscover) your favorite creative outlet, but keep in mind that you don’t have to pursue just one. Try as many different outlets as you have the time and passion for. Broaden your concept of creativity from just painting, drawing or music. An outlet for creativity exists in every area of our lives, from how and what we eat to how we dress, and every area in between. Create your life using all of your senses. As you engage in this process, you will develop a heightened awareness of all the creative possibilities that exist for you.

One of the new creative outlets I pursued was gardening, and I had a wonderful time. I loved being outside, creating a little kitchen herb garden and perennial bed. I had some successes, and there are some things that I will definitely do differently this year, but I had so much fun and learned a lot. This crossed over into getting creative in the kitchen, too, because I tried some new recipes using the bounty from my garden. These were new areas for me, so keep an open mind when considering what areas to pursue creatively.

I am taking my own advice, working on my personal creative challenge, and I’ll look forward to sharing with all of you when it comes to fruition in the fall. Of course, I have lots of things that I want to try that I have never done before. I want to take a square dancing class. I want to learn how to paint with watercolors. I want to take the “Piano for Busy People” class. My list goes on and on, after all, there is so much in life to discover, I don’t want to limit myself, and I hope you don’t either. Create your glamorous life.

What is your creative goal? Is there a hobby that you once put away, and want to get back into? Is there something you have always wanted to try? There should be, and this month we challenge you to take the plunge and create your fun. Maybe you have always secretly desired to get up on the stage and sing, or maybe you want to learn to paint and even show some of your paintings to some of your friends. I am excited for you to tap into your creative mind. Share the results with me when you do, because I am curious about what you will choose •
