Birmingham Restaurant Week 2012 – August 17 to August 26

Discover a new place or revisit an old favorite, and enjoy a bargain.

Celebrate the city’s acclaimed culinary culture by taking advantage of incentives to revisit your favorite restaurants and bars or to experience new places for the first time during Birmingham Restaurant Week, August 17-26.

Restaurants will offer special two and/or three-course prix-fixe lunch and/or dinner menus in the $5, $10, $20 and $30 per person range throughout the 10-day event. The BRW 2012 menu also includes a healthy kid’s menu component, brunch offerings and drink specials.

With more than 30 restaurants participating in 2011 and an estimated 40 expected to participate in its third edition, BRW is quickly becoming one of the biggest foodie events in town.

“We are pleased to offer this opportunity to residents of Birmingham and to the restaurants that serve our community,” says James Little, creator and director of BRW. “It is our hope that this 10-day event will draw attention to the top-notch dining opportunities right here in our hometown.” Little also mentioned that similar promotions in cities such as Atlanta, New

York and San Diego have helped revitalize restaurant business.

BRW’s success has been widespread and has influenced the Alabama Tourism Department to take restaurant week statewide. “Birmingham has had a city restaurant week for several years now and it has been extremely successful,” said Lee Sentell, tourism director. “We wanted to take the concept statewide to showcase the culinary variety that Alabama has to offer. When planning our Year of Alabama Food campaign, we knew we wanted to do something big that would get everyone in the state excited.”

Several new events have been added to the schedule for the week that will further enhance the reach of Birmingham Restaurant Week 2012. Events include two Beer Saturday events, which will feature beer tastings from Goodpeople and Avondale breweries. To celebrate the kickoff of BRW 2012, a Preview Party will be held on Wednesday, August 15 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Vulcan Park and Museum. All proceeds from this event will benefit Vulcan Park and Museum. The Wine-ol-ogy event, which made its debut last year, will again be held at The Wine Loft on Tuesday, Aug. 21.
