Creating a buzz…The Storm

Rise up in the face of adversity.

Newscasts lead with them. Social media feeds overflow with them. They dominate water cooler conversations. Disasters seem ever more frequent and unavoidable. They do not discriminate based on socioeconomic status, ethnic background, or even religious belief.  Well-engineered structures and conventions are, all too often, no match for the forces of nature. In an instant, wind and rain wash away plans and erase traditions. Earthquakes shake the foundation of normalcy; and fires destroy dreams, as life and landscape are changed forever.

Despite policies, strategies, and preparedness drills, every community around the globe remains equally vulnerable to calamity. In a moment, the joys of paradise can be replaced with unimaginable hardships.

So, what then? What happens when the storm passes, and the floodwaters recede? Out of the aftermath, stories of unity, resilience, and heroism begin to emerge. In the midst of breathtaking loss, humans find the strength to stand together and face another day. Humanity perseveres! After devastation, comes restoration and renewal.

So, lead the charge! Extend the helping hand of kindness next door and to the other side of the world. Meet basic needs with resolve and compassion, help restore homes with grit and determination, and rebuild neighborhoods with fortitude and spirit.  Adversity is inevitable, but survival is intentional. Faith, hope, and love are just as essential as food and water. Wake up tomorrow, step outside, and take care of each other.

“Tho’ much is taken, much abides; and tho’

We are not now that strength which in old days

Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;

One equal temper of heroic hearts,

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will

To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.”

—Ulysses by Alfred, Lord Tennyson
