Bread and Spice of the Dead

Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican festival celebrating the human life cycle and welcoming the spirits of people’s ancestors for a day. Food features heavily in the festivities, and families cook all the delicacies their dear ones loved to devour.

The Great Outdoors

For Andy Gathings, the journey from technical outerwear visionary to director and partner of Salence, a men’s outdoor clothing line, was anything but expected. “I have always loved the outdoors, but I became passionate about it when I began to consider making it both a lifestyle and a profession,” he explains as we sit in his home studio on a mountain overlooking Birmingham, Ala.

Paying a Call on The Addams Family

Lexie Dorsett probably learned a lot of things in the seventh grade; middle school is notorious for lessons in pre-algebra, Earth science and the art of making friends. But there is one thing Dorsett found out that changed everything: She realized, for the first time, that she could get a degree in musical theater.

A Conversation: Al Denson

A fixture at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport for many years, Al Denson inherited the top spot back in 2000. He is in the midst of overseeing the airport modernization project scheduled to be completed in mid-2014.
