For a couple who are from Birmingham, met in Atlanta, and now live in Oregon, it is clear that love can take you anywhere and everywhere. David Russell, 27, and Melissa Montanez, 26, know one thing for sure: their next destination is down the aisle. Here is their love story.
How did you two meet?
M: We met through mutual friends from college at the University of Alabama. We saw each other on opening game day weekend, and from there it was history.
D: I thought I had to steal a kiss by the end of the night (hint: I succeeded.)
What is your favorite thing to do together?
D: Lazy weekends, watching movies, and wining and dining.
D: Beautiful, sweet, and smart.
M: Trustworthy, caring, and goofy.
Tell us about the proposal.
D: We got engaged at a private vineyard in Newberg, Oregon; I felt bad for making her walk through the weeds right before I popped the question. I was shaking and nervous but also so happy that this day had finally come.
M: I had just flown across country, my flight was delayed, and then we got stuck in traffic on the way home, so I wasn’t having the best day. Then, we drove into wine country, and that’s when I knew what was happening. From that point, I pretty much blacked out until he put the ring on my finger.
What was your experience like shopping for the ring at Diamonds Direct?
M: We worked with Jeana, who found my ring for me. She knew what I wanted before I even did, and I could not be happier!
D: Jeana spent time getting to know Melissa and me before starting a conversation about engagement rings. It was a very relaxed environment.
D: Happy wife, happy life.
M: You do not marry someone to make yourself happy, you marry someone and dedicate your time to making them happy, and in turn you will have complete happiness.
What are you most looking forward to about spending the rest of your lives together?
D: Having a family and growing together–Melissa is my rock.
M: Having my best friend as my husband.
