Having a dinner party? Plan around the wines. Vineyard Brands imports more than 25 growers of estate-bottled wines in Burgundy, Chablis, the Rhône, Loire Valley, Alsace and Southern France, along with many other wonderful wines from other countries. Recently executive vice president Eileen Hallmark shared 12 of these wines at a local dinner and charitable auction, the 28th Annual Evening of Wines. The event’s steering committee chose the wines.

Take their lead in planning your event around these wines and a similar menu. Start the evening with a food friendly French sparkling wine, Domaine Pichot Sparkling Vouvray. A lovely effervescence and chilly notes of apple, pear and cinnamon create a festive mood. Next pour the aromatic and fruity Delaporte Sancerre Rosé with passed hors d’oeuvres of bite sized crab cakes and fried quail crostini. For the seated appetizer course, give guests the option of Neil Ellis Groenekloof Sauvignon Blanc, Matrot Bourgogne Chardonnay, or Peregrine Pinto Noir and pair with a chicken and baked Brie cheese course. Salad pairings are typically the most challenging. But not when you select Ashborne Sandstone with notes of honey, green peas, litchis and rose petals with a salad of local, vine ripe tomato and Gulf Coast crab. For the main course, match Maison Nicolas Perrin Crozes Hermitage and Tenuta Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino with beef short ribs and a cheesy risotto—made with an award winning local goat cheese, Belle Chevre. And for dessert pour Warre’s LBV with an array of chocolate truffles.
