Pair This: Dixie Fish Co.’s Buster Crab BLT & Dixie Lemonade

If it’s seafood you crave, there isn’t much you can’t find on the extensive menus at Dixie Fish Co. Located on Highway 280, Dixie is open seven days a week for lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch and offers both in-house and off-site catering.

Among my favorites here are their sandwiches. And today I must choose one. Tried and true loves from previous visits are the shrimp po boy, fish tacos, soft shell crab BLT, and crawfish and pimento cheese sandwich. And as our friendly server Gregg awaits my decision, I cave to the memories of the Buster crab, lettuce, and tomato sandwich. With the sandwich, I order Gregg’s suggestion of a tall, cold glass of Dixie lemonade. The lemonade arrives in a signature glass with a sugary rim and garnished with a wedge of lemon. This lemonade—hand squeezed daily—is mixed with Cathead Honey Suckle Vodka, simple syrup, and fresh squeezed lime. The thirst-quenching drink has the perfect balance of acidity and sweetness and pairs deliciously with the seafood sandwich.

The BLT boasts a gorgeous, whole, fried soft-shell crab wedged between two slices of grilled Texas toast atop shredded lettuce and slices of tomato. The succulent crab is topped with slices of crisp apple-smoked bacon. And a delightful green onion mayo adds another layer of flavor to this scrumptious sandwich. The Buster Crab BLT is served with Dixie’s tasty, house-made onion rings. And to this I also add another favorite—their sweet, crunchy coleslaw. This sandwich is highly recommended for weekday lunches or weekend “tailgating,” when watching football on their big screen televisions.
