Fall weather is finally here! We are chatting with Shaun Thomas, owner of Glam Boutique in Vestavia, about how to transition a summer hairstyle into fall/winter.
Shaun: There are three main trends going on right now.
1. Volumized soft textures. Think about using a volumizing product with a diffuser instead of a round brush to get some swell in the hair while keeping an organic lived-in feel.
2. Color trends are gravitating to warm hues. It warms up skin tones and adds some balance to complexions as summer tans fade. Balayage continues to dominate the scene with its low maintenance, super-chic style.
3. Cuts are all about the movement. Whether you’re sporting a chic smooth bob that swings with your silhouette or have a sexy shaggy look that accentuates your features. Many styles are falling somewhere between the chin and collarbone. Shorter hair is keeping with an airy look with fun flirty layers, while longer locks have either blunt cuts with ends slightly texturized or long layers.
Shaun: If you aren’t ready for a major color change, have your stylist gradually add in some pieces of something slightly darker. Opting for your stylist to balayage some bright pieces in front while adding depth can give out a different look but still keep things light and fresh around the face. And try a few more face-framing layers to accentuate your great cheekbones, or get a styling tutorial from your hairdresser to learn how to use a curling wand.
What’s your best advice for keeping healthy hair?
Shaun: Get your hair cut! Take an extra inch off the ends of your hairs. Those ends from summer need to go! All the chlorine, salt, and sun damage will keep your hair looking dull no matter the color. So, pick up a restorative mask at your salon to hydrate and add some nutrition back into your hair.
