We have never met anyone who radiates adoration for the Magic City the way she does. Having been here for more than 20 years, she is the ultimate Birmingfan, using every extra breath she has to cheer on her community and encourage her peers to be proactive. But she’s not all talk. She has been walking the walk—the Sidewalk, that is—for six years. And as if dedicating her free time year round to the film festival as the transportation coordinator wasn’t enough, she somehow has energy to round up the troops as the volunteer coordinator for another summer festival, Secret Stages. She doesn’t stop there. She has contributed to events to benefit organizations like the American Red Cross and Bama Bully Rescue, and is a huge supporter of Kulture City and Girls Rock Birmingham.
Not only eager to contribute, her desire to enlighten herself is as fierce as whatever her current hair color may be. This woman is working full time at a locally owned restaurant while putting herself through pre–nursing school at Jeff State. She aspires to use her education in a field helping children, yet another selfless endeavor.
Though the flames of her fire for the community expand as high as Vulcan’s reach, she would never claim the spotlight for herself. She credits local filmmakers, musicians, and the magic in this city as lighting the spark inside her. Her natural inclination is to shout the praises of others, proving her heart is as big as her hair color is bold. And it beats for everything Birmingham. For her adoration and dedication as Birmingham’s No.1 cheerleader, we declare Lisa Petruff to be Birmingfamous.
