Set up by your best friend and meeting on a park bench. It sounds like a story straight out of a romance movie, but it’s where love began for Jeffrey Criswell, 24, and Kelsey Whitley. This is their love story…
How did you two meet?
J: We met through mutual friends at a park bench at Samford University.
K: My best friend in college introduced me to Jeffrey. She said, “He’s wonderful, you will love him.”
J: We love hiking and running together.
K: We enjoy going to the bookstore together as well as exploring the variety of Mexican restaurants Birmingham has to offer.
What is your favorite thing about your partner? Why?
J: She exemplifies grace and understanding. Which is why no matter how many times I mess up she never stops loving me.
K: He cares for others in such a way that reflects Christ. He truly loves people.
Can you each tell me about the proposal from your own perspective?
J: I was anxious and excited. I felt like I had waited forever for this opportunity; and, when I finally got the chance I couldn’t control my nerves. I started stammering and just forgot everything I had planned to say in my head. By far the best decision I have ever made though.
K: Jeffrey was very nervous he could barely form a sentence. It was evident that something was about to happen because of his energy level. When he finally got down on one knee to ask me I was in shock. I could not stop crying and knew this was the moment we had been waiting for. It was a special day and would not trade it for the world.
J: I loved shopping there. I felt like they only wanted to help me find what I wanted and what I needed. By far the best customer service and experience.
K: Jeffrey knew that I wanted a solitaire diamond, and I love it!
What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given about love/relationships?
J: Best thing I have been told is to relax with one another and to not try and make it something that it shouldn’t be. You will never be satisfied with one another if you are not being true to each other.
K: It is best to remember that your relationship is not supposed to be perfect. Therefore, treat a relationship with an enormous amount of grace.
