One on One

This month we introduced two people who keep a lot of balls aloft at the same time, juggling interests and entrepreneurial visions and a deep love for their hometown, Birmingham

James Little is the merchant liaison for Main Street Birmingham, the grassroots economic development organization charged with growing business opportunities, revitalizing neighborhoods and empowering communities.

Little works with local merchants associations to foster economic stability within commercial business areas. He is perhaps most active with the Five Points South Merchants Association, building that group into a force that puts social media and old-fashioned promotion to work in developing the neighborhood’s retail scene. He is also active with Operation New Birmingham, Artwalk and the Five Points Neighborhood Association.

He and his wife Jill, an artist and printmaker (“She taught me that you can always look at things in a different light”), live on Southside. Little grew up in the Roebuck Springs area of Birmingham.

Homewood resident Cassie Moore wears a number of hats. A realtor with RealtySouth, Moore is also the founder of Birmingham Hot, a web site and smartphone app that shares with readers the things to do and places to be seen all around town.

Moore also helped publish The Hottest Hounds in Birmingham, a book that features some of the most lovable pooches in the Magic City. A portion of the proceeds from the book will benefit The Animal League of Birmingham.

She is currently working on similar projects in other cities. An animal lover, Moore works with several non-profit organizations that promote animal welfare, such as Hand in Paw and The Animal League of Birmingham, and has two dogs of her own, Rocco and Dolce. She brought a very well-behaved Dolce to the photo shoot for this feature.
