One on One: Garfield Campbell and Cami Krablin

This month’s one on one conversation puts fashion and hospitality together in a most interesting way.

Garfield Campbell is the complex director of sales and marketing for both the Westin and the Sheraton. He has been in town for almost two years, a span of time that has coincided with a city renaissance. “The coolest thing is to see the revitalization and interest in downtown. When I first moved here, I lived in the hotel for a while. I can remember taking walks around and not seeing a soul. That never happens now,” Campbell says.

Campbell started working in hospitality as a valet for a Marriott hotel while in college in New Jersey. When he graduated in 1989, he entered the management training program. Following a decade-long stint with Marriott, Campbell moved to Starwood. Birmingham is the eighth city he has worked in.

“I think this city is a hidden gem. We probably need to do a better job telling our story, because it is a great one. We need to bring in new businesses and make sure people understand that there are great attractions here. We all need to help make Birmingham more relevant. In most cities I have lived in, the folks that live in outlying areas understand they are a part of a larger place. We should have more festivals, runs, walks, charity events; all of those things help put a focus on downtown. We want to make sure we are giving back to the community by supporting those organizations that make downtown relevant,” Campbell says.

Married 20 years to his college sweetheart, Stephanie, the couple has two daughters, Gabrielle and Madison, who attend Spain Park High School.

Cami Krablin, a buyer at Gus Mayer, has her finger on the pulse of contemporary fashion. Although Krablin spends most of her time in the biggest fashion cities in America, she has never left her Southern roots.

Always on the go, she never steps out of the house without her long strands of pearls and a rockin’ playlist. Contemporary to the hilt with a splash of rock ‘n’ roll, this fashion industry guru is bringing the latest trends to the Birmingham market.

Outside of her search to bring the best and latest fashions to the market, Krablin is a devoted wife and mother of two beautiful girls, ages 8 and 5.
