One of my favorite restaurants for many years has been The Pita Stop. As a student at UAB I frequented the original Southside location. And now I have another location that is even closer to home in Cahaba Heights. This building is brand–new yet has an architectural integrity similar to the original location. The space includes a separate bar with televisions, a large dining space and a spacious, covered patio.

My favorite entrée is the Seafood Kabob. Today I pair this with a glass of their new house wine, Concannon Sauvignon Blanc. A long skewer of grilled shrimp, scallops, grouper, tomatoes, peppers and onions sits atop a platter of their earthy wild rice and a salad with their house vinaigrette. Refreshing slices of fresh cantaloupe, orange and pineapple fill one end of the platter. The hot, grilled fish and vegetables mix with the rice, salad and fruit, creating the perfect synthesis of flavors and textures. Fresh pita bread and a small bowl of their divine hummus round out this flavor–filled dish.
