Russell and Amber’s Happenings

Vulcan Aftertunes 2019

Vulcan Aftertunes is one of our favorite ways to spend Sunday afternoons each fall. The 2019 dates are Sept. 22nd, Sept. 29th, and October 6th.  We always look forward to picking out a spot on the lawn to listen to some great bands while taking in one of the best views in Birmingham.  Early bird tickets start at just $12 and kids 12 and under get in for just $5. This year’s featured bands are Logan Ledger, Griffin House, and Chirstone “Kingfish” Ingram.  We hope to see y’all there.

Fiesta BHAM

Fiesta Bham returns on Sept. 28th and it’s a massive block party that you don’t want to miss. Vivid colors, friendly vendors, lively music, and SO MUCH great food.  This is one of our “Don’t Miss” events of the year. We love heading down to Linn Park and celebrating Hispanic culture! There are always fun activities for kids as well.  Find a vibrant outfit and join in the celebration. The hardest part will be deciding between food vendors. We guarantee you’ll have a fun time!

47th Annual Greek Festival

Each year thousands of people stop in at The Greek Festival over the course of three days to enjoy music, dancing, art, and great food. This year’s festivities will take place Oct. 3rd through the 5th on 19th Street South. We always feel like we are on an episode of “No Reservations” as soon as we walk in. The feel of Greek culture permeates through the entire venue.  Be sure to experience this as it should be on everyone’s Bham Bucket List!

Gatos & Beans

In case you haven’t heard, Birmingham has a cat cafe. Gatos & Beans recently opened in Avondale near Sheppard’s Pet Supply and Tropicaleo.  You can sip on some Red Bike coffee and watch, or event play with, some adorable felines. Owners Kelli and Stephen Steward have partnered with Kitty Kat Haven to help adopt these loving cats. This colorful cafe is expertly decorated and is painted by multiple local artists. You can drop in for a quick cup of coffee, or you can reserve a time to spend in the cat room. It has already become one of our favorite spots and we’ve even composed a blog post while visiting. They may have just “purrrfected” the coffee experience for cat lovers.
