Opposite Box with
Matt Owen – Eclectic Tuba

The Metro Bar, 10/25, 9:00 PM

Opposite Box is a whirlwind of genre-shifting excitement and mind-bending confusion landing somewhere between the eclecticism of Mr. Bungle and the improvisational styling of The Secret Chiefs 3 and The Mars Volta. Forged in a sweat-filled, child’s playroom in the southern part of Tennessee, the band has spent the majority of a decade pushing the bounds of decency and dancing the fine line between absurdity and creativity.  Opposite Box blends high energy, experimental music – dubbed “weird rock” or “belligerent funk” – with a theatrical, sometimes over-the-top, audience-inclusive stage presence that leaves witnesses wondering what kind of avant-garde circus church they’ve just experienced. Joined by Matt Owen-Eclectic Tuba, this FREE show at The Metro Bar has the brassy punk-funk sound you don’t want to miss. More details here

Maus Haus / Generationals
Bottletree, 10/25, 9:00 PM

San Francisco’s Maus Haus is a concoction of Kraftwerk, the Beach Boys, and Sonic Youth steeped in a solution of glitchy noise,  dirty drums,  and buzzy synthesizers. Through this heady mix,  the band is still eminently approachable,  with catchy vocals, and moving rhythms.  The resulting sound is patently unique, yet strangely familiar. Since the release of 2009’s sprawling Lark Marvels,  the band has progressed from a stage-filling 7-person ensemble to a powerful 4-piece with each member attending to multiple instruments. Joining M.H. is Generationals, an indie rock duo from Park The Van Records. Be live and be loud at Bottletree: More details here

Neil Young Crazy Horse LIVE
With Special Guest
The Alabama Shakes
Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, 10/25

Neil Young last played Tuscaloosa on Feb. 2, 1973.   Since his last visit he has remained vital and creative in the music scene, winning Grammys, selling records and filling concert halls, although less prone to performing a medley of hits created dozens of years ago. Crazy Horse is the band he started as a side project from Crosby, Stills Nash and Young. The first disc credited to Neil Young With Crazy Horse was 1969’s “Everybody Knows This is Nowhere,” which familiarized many with Young’s strained tenor, mournful lyrics and gritty extended guitar jams on songs such as “Cinnamon Girl,” “Down By the River” and “Cowgirl in the Sand.” He’s toured and recorded with the band on and off ever since. The upcoming show will be whole new generations’ introduction to Young’s distinctive live style. More details here
