Dr. April Maddux founded the Breast Care Center of Birmingham as a purpose-built facility to provide comprehensive, multi-disciplinary breast care service. Their services include a wide range of clinical and support services, from screening (risk assessments) and diagnosis to treatment and counseling.
Dr. Maddux’s practice has evolved significantly over the years with increasing focus on surgical treatment of breast cancer and preventive/prophylactic surgery for high-risk individuals. Dr. Maddux is a board certified general surgeon and fellowship trained breast oncologist specializing in breast surgery and genetic counseling and testing. She and her staff at the Breast Care Center of Birmingham provide a comprehensive approach to breast care. Dr. Maddux services patients and operates at Brookwood Medical Center, St. Vincent’s and Grandview Medical Center.
Dr. Maddux is a graduate of Birmingham-Southern College and the University of Alabama School of Medicine, and completed her internship and residency at Carraway Methodist Medical Center from 1998 to 2003. She also completed a Breast Fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Maddux is a Candidate of the American College of Surgeons; and member of the Association of Women Surgeons; Southeastern Surgical Congress; and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
