For Mark Hyde, partner at Forecast Salon in Homewood, the inspiration for truly artistic hair can come from the most unexpected places.
The image by photographer Liesa Cole that is on this issue’s cover was inspired by Liza Doolittle.
The inspiration, Hyde says, came “from My Fair Lady and the Derby scene with all the amazing hats.”
Felt and synthetic hair and hours of manipulation created the flowery, flowing hair that graces the cover.
The team at Forecast Salon is passionate about providing the latest trends to guests. But the art of hair becomes a passion of its own.
“That was one of the things I promised myself this year was to get back to being more creative. Because when I do have that creative outlet outside of the salon, I’m better at work,” Hyde says.

“But inside the salon, if you have a customer willing to flow with you, I guess that is where the artistic sensibility comes into the commercial aspect of the business itself. Dexterity with your hands, working with different shapes and things like that helps on the day to day,” he says. After creating the Flower hair, Liesa and Mark went to work on a second look, creating fluffy clouds that look like they could sweep the model skyward into a beautiful blue sky.
