Ann Halpern retired from a freelance writing career in 2007. Although she has since lost her eyesight, Ann’s volunteer spirit remains strong. Her current focus is the nonprofit Alabama Media Professionals Education Fund Inc., which supports continuing education for professionals, provides scholarships for aspiring communicators and helps the public understand the difference between fact and opinion in media. Ann held leadership positions with the American Advertising Federation (AAF), Susan G. Komen and National Federation of Press Women (NFPW). She has received numerous awards from professional, charitable and civic organizations, including the AAF Silver Medal and the Ann Halpern Award, created by AAF-Birmingham for members giving exceptional service. Ann was a national finalist for NFPW’S Communicator of Achievement award in 2002 and 2020.
