Top 50 Over 50: Catrena Norris Carter

A native of Selma, Ala., Catrena Norris Carter is the mother of three sons and a 30-year veteran of civil and women’s rights movements. She is co-founder and CEO of Salute Selma, Inc., and led successful efforts as the national coordinator of the Bridge Crossing Jubilee, bringing Presidents Clinton, Obama, Bush and some of the country’s top celebrities and officials to Selma. Catrena was the executive director of the Selma to Montgomery 50th Anniversary Commemoration Foundation and the executive producer of BET’S/Centric SALUTE SELMA docu-concert and Selma SHEROES documentary. Catrena founded Women of Will (WOW), training women to run for political office and served as associate publisher of “Who’s Who in Black Alabama.”
