The Face of Holocaust Remembrance
The Alabama Holocaust Education Center (AHEC) first organized in 2002 by community volunteers, educators, and survivors who recognized the need for more Holocaust education in our community. The organization functioned primarily through outreach, and development was driven by the passion and dedication of its volunteers along with tremendous support from the community. In 2022, the Alabama Holocaust Education Center moved to a permanent location at 2100 Highland Avenue, Suite 101, enabling them to further their mission to teach about the history and lessons of the Holocaust, in order to create a more just and compassionate world that recognizes the dignity, potential, and humanity of every individual. The work of the AHEC is inspired by Alabama’s Holocaust survivors, whose presence in our community makes us mindful of the injustices in their past.
“Our mission compels us to use the history and lessons of the Holocaust to recognize the dignity, potential and humanity of every individual,” says Lisa Bachman AHEC executive director. “We do this through storytelling to convey the important learning that comes from Holocaust Survivors, Rescuers and Liberators.
