Give Birmingham: Birmingham Civil RIghts Institute

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI), part of the Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument & an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, is a cultural & educational research center that promotes a comprehensive understanding of the significance of civil rights developments in Birmingham. We stand strong as the cornerstone of the civil rights story, a living memorial with an ongoing mission.

For over 30 years, BCRI has enlightened each generation about civil & human rights through historical exhibitions, educational programming, community engagement, and cultural events. BCRI is dedicated to reaching individuals, young & old, from all backgrounds & cultural groups, to convey the importance of the Civil Rights Movement then & now.

The Institute is open Tues.-Fri., 10 am-5 pm, and Sat., 10 am-4 pm. Admission tickets can be purchased on-site. Visit our website (www.BCRI.org) to purchase advance tickets, schedule a group tour, become a member, make a donation, and view upcoming events.

Highlights

In 2023, BCRI welcomed over 46,000 visitors and hosted 30 events engaging both the local and global community to experience civil rights history.
