Top 50 Over 50: M.R. Chambers, DVM, MD

M.R. Chambers, DVM, MD earned her bachelor’s and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from Auburn University and her medical degree from UAB. She completed the Halsted Surgical Internship at Johns Hopkins University and a neurosurgical residency at Vanderbilt University. She is a current professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at UAB, diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and named a Physician Quality Leader by the Alabama Department of Health. She has served as the UAB principal investigator of the Quality Outcomes Database. Civic interests and volunteerism include: annual Career Day and student enrichment programs, Habitat for Humanity, The World Orphan Fund, Children’s Hospital of Alabama, UAB Hearts for the Homeless, One Health Initiative and the Cahaba River Society. She is past president of the Jefferson County Veterinary Medical Association; founder of the Southeastern Comparative Oncology Network; founding member of the National Cancer Institute Comparative Brain Tumor Consortium; and principal investigator of the NIH funded CANINE Trial.
