Valerie moved from San Antonio to Birmingham in 2010 with her husband Steven. She quickly realized all the Magic City has to offer and formed The VAL Group Inc., a recruiting support service to UAB, Children’s of Alabama and others who want to showcase Birmingham to visitors or future residents. Valerie has become one of Birmingham’s greatest ambassadors.
After working at IBM for more than 13 years, Valerie later pursued nonprofit management and development for many agencies in North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Texas.
An active community supporter, Valerie serves as treasurer of the UAB Women’s Club, vice president of Strategic Planning for the board of Red Mountain Theatre, and vice president for UAB Arts. She is also on the board of directors for Create Birmingham, Pepper Place Market, Railroad Park, and is a member of First Methodist Church in Birmingham.
Valerie and Steven have two adult children, Morgan and Meghan.
