After spending 50 years on the radio, “Dollar Bill” Lawson recently retired from 102.5 The Bull as part of the top-rated morning team of “The Dollar Bill & Madison Show.” Bill grew up in Birmingham, received an associate degree from The Marion Military Institute and graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in communications. He launched his radio career in 1973 and worked in Tuscaloosa, Selma and Florence before returning home. Bill became “Dollar Bill” in 1984 with the Birmingham powerhouse WZZK radio, where he spent 18 years. Since 2002, Dollar Bill has been on iHeart Media’s WDXB-FM, where he had a national weekend classic country show on iHeart radio stations. He has worked tirelessly for charities, schools and social organizations and has won numerous awards. Dollar Bill was inducted into the Alabama Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame in 2019, won the CMA National Humanitarian Award and was recently inducted into the National Country Radio Hall of Fame in Nashville. Bill and his wife, Mary, have two children and two grandchildren.
